Indian Rivers is an established social care provider that delivers behavioral health services. It has several options for the care that it provides for people with mental illness, substance abuse and developmental disabilities.

The organization has provided top quality care to people with behavioral health problems since it was established in 1969.

Indian Rivers treats a vast number of issues such as ADHD, depression, anxiety, mood disorders, substance abuse and developmental disabilities.

Out of the services delivered in 2020 Indian Rivers Behavioral Health provided more than 120,000 services and treated more than 4,400 people.

Their services help in keeping people away from incarceration in the local jails and also in reducing the instances of visits to the emergency rooms.

Mental Health Services Provided By Indian Rivers Center

1. Adult Services

Some of the services that Indian Rivers has for adults are community integration, management of symptoms and stabilization.

Their outpatient options include individual, group and family therapy, mental health education and psychiatric evaluation. These are for people who are older than 18 years of age.

Community-based outreach teams to help people with serious mental illnesses by giving them treatment, rehabilitation and community support.

Their crisis stabilization unit receives adults from Bibb, Pickens and Tuscaloosa Counties in mental health crises and offers assessment, brief stabilization and treatment and clinical programs.

They also have a PATH Program which helps the targeted population with serious mental illnesses and substance use disorders, who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless, by linking them up with the necessary care.

2. Child and Family Outpatient Services

Indian Rivers also has child and family outpatient services to help children and families cope with emotional and behavioral problems.

Licensed and unlicensed therapists deliver services in accordance with the needs of the child and family as is the case in other agencies.

Some of the services include; assessment, individual and family counseling, psychiatric services, medication, and teaching clients about their diagnosis and how to manage their symptoms.

Further, it offers other services such as school based mental health services, intensive in home services, case management, group therapy and family support groups.

They also have Children’s Intensive Services which include the FIND and CHINS programs which are short term but very intensive for children who are considered to be at high risk.

The goal is to work towards keeping the child in the home, while managing their emotional and behavioral problems.

3. Journey School Based Mental Health Services

Journey School-Based Mental Health Program focuses on the collaboration between Indian Rivers therapists, schools, and families.

The program was initially started in 2014 in partnership with Tuscaloosa City Schools.

It was later on in 2017 when it extended its services to Tuscaloosa County Schools to help students with emotional and behavioral problems that hinder learning.

Their therapists are keenly involved in monitoring every child’s progress, noting all kinds of new concerns, and working together with teachers and school staff. 

When additional support is necessary, they link children to other services, such as psychiatric appointments, case management or home support.

4. Substance Abuse Programs and Services

At Indian Rivers, there is a full-fledged substance abuse treatment and counseling section to cater to the needs of the patients.

The outpatient treatment programs include: Two 2-hour groups per week, as well as case management and individual counseling.

For those in need of a more comprehensive treatment plan, the Intensive Outpatient Treatment Programs offer three 3-hour groups per week.

At the Stafford office in Tuscaloosa the outpatients are provided with groups in the afternoon and evenings while the intensive outpatients are provided with groups in the morning and afternoon.

Groups are organized by gender, but there are also mixed-gender programs available. Both the Pickens and Bibb offices offer co-ed outpatient groups in the mornings.

Indian Rivers also works with the local drug court to provide outpatient and intensive outpatient treatment to the clients. 

The outpatient programs meet in the afternoon and the intensive outpatient programs meet in the evening.

5. Development Disabilities Services

At Indian Rivers, Development Disabilities Services have been put in place to improve the quality of life of individuals who are going through various problems.

The Day Habilitation programs assist the participants to find new hobbies, improve on their skills and also increase their awareness within the community.

These programs help the participants to engage in activities such as cooking and nutrition as well as exercise to enhance independent living skills. 

Day habilitation services can be availed in Tuscaloosa, Bibb, and Pickens counties.

They also offer a Supported Employment program, which aims at helping the individuals to get jobs that they would want to do.
