Mental Health Services Provided By Next Chapter Mental Health
Next Chapter Mental Health provides a variety of services for people of all ages.
Whether you need individual counseling or help with family issues, their main goal is to create a safe and comfortable environment for everyone. Here are the services they offer:
1. Psychology Support Services
Next Chapter Mental Health provides support for both adults and adolescents. They work with clients to create a personalized therapeutic plan addressing their unique experiences and challenges.
Therapy is not a one-size-fits-all solution; it’s a process that can be as complex and unpredictable as life.
The journey can involve working towards long-term goals or just managing day-to-day challenges.
Next Chapter Mental Health uses various therapeutic methods to find the best fit for each client’s needs and goals.
Here are the psychology support services offered:
1.1 Person Centred Therapy
Person-centered therapy moves away from the old idea of the therapist being the expert.
Instead, it focuses on a supportive and understanding approach that helps clients feel empowered and motivated throughout their therapy.
1.2 Contextual Trauma Therapy (CTT)
Contextual Trauma Therapy (CTT) focuses on complex trauma by addressing both the direct effects of traumatic events and the impact of environments that limit psychological, social, and learning growth.
By addressing both factors, CTT helps treat trauma and supports clients in developing the skills needed for a more fulfilling and productive life.
1.3 Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR)
EMDR uses techniques like eye movements, touch, and sounds to reduce the emotional impact of traumatic memories.
This method helps clients process these memories without the negative emotions and physical sensations they once carried.
1.4 Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
ACT helps clients stop trying to control or suppress their emotions, which can often make things worse.
Instead, it guides them in developing a kinder, more accepting relationship with their feelings and experiences..
1.5 Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)
DBT helps clients improve how they manage their emotions and thoughts.
It focuses on identifying what triggers intense reactions and teaches skills to handle these situations more effectively.
1.6 Mindfulness Techniques
Mindfulness Techniques involve paying attention to the present moment without judgment.
These practices, often learned through meditation, help individuals engage more deeply with their current experiences, both internally and externally.
1.7 Attachment Theory
Attachment Theory examines how forming emotional and physical connections with others is crucial for personal growth.
It highlights that these attachments provide a sense of security and stability, which is essential for taking risks, exploring new experiences, and developing as an individual.
1.8 Internal Family Systems Therapy
Internal Family Systems (IFS) proposes that our psyche consists of different sub-personalities or “parts,” with mental health issues being influenced by these unconscious parts.
1.9 Polyvagal Theory
Polyvagal Theory explains how our nervous system reacts to different stimuli by assessing and responding to signals of safety or threat.
It offers a framework for understanding how these responses shape our behavior.
1.10 Schema Therapy
Schema Therapy proposes that many negative thought patterns and behaviors stem from past experiences.
It provides strategies for challenging and changing these patterns to foster personal growth.
1.11 Cognitive Behavioural Therapy CBT (in particular, Trauma-Focused CBT)
CBT), especially Trauma-Focused CBT, helps individuals identify and address harmful or unproductive thoughts and behaviors.
1.12 Psychodynamic Therapy
It focuses on uncovering recurring patterns in a person’s emotions, thoughts, and beliefs, often by exploring their early life experiences to gain a deeper understanding of their current self.
2. Clinical Supervision
As the lead psychologist at Next Chapter Health, Travers Holbrook not only sees clients but also guides and supports mental health professionals from various backgrounds.
His extensive experience in education, community health, and private practice enriches his role as a supervisor.
Since founding his private practice in 2018, Travers has concentrated on areas such as complex trauma, gender and sexual diversity, ADHD, and the connection between nutrition and mental health.
With three Master’s degrees and a fourth in progress, Travers draws from a wide range of therapeutic techniques in his supervision.
These include Person-Centred Therapy, Contextual Trauma Therapy, EMDR, ACT, DBT, Mindfulness Techniques, Attachment Theory, Internal Family Systems Therapy, Polyvagal Theory, Schema Therapy, CBT, and Psychodynamic Therapy.
He customizes his supervision to fit each supervisee’s specific needs and goals, providing a supportive space for reflection, skill development, and navigating the complexities of mental health work.
3. EMDR Therapy
Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy works to help the brain process and overcome distressing memories by addressing blockages in its natural processing abilities.
During an EMDR session, clients are guided to think about the details of traumatic events while receiving bilateral stimulation, such as eye movements, touches, or sounds.
This can trigger related images, thoughts, feelings, and sensations as the brain processes these memories.
The aim is to lessen the emotional weight of these memories and incorporate them into daily life, which can help change any negative self-perceptions or outlooks on the world.
At Next Chapter Health, different EMDR techniques are utilized.
This includes using wireless equipment for simultaneous visual, auditory, and tactile stimulation, as well as immersive EMDR apps that enable clients to engage with therapy through their phones, either in-person or remotely, as needed.
4. Trauma-Informed Photography
After trauma, people often struggle with feelings of shame and a disconnect from their true selves, leading to negative self-perceptions and a deep fear of their image.
Next Chapter Health provides a specialized photography package aimed at addressing these challenges.
This package combines therapy with a two-hour photoshoot conducted by a trauma-informed photographer.
The process starts with a complimentary, private discussion to identify your needs and set objectives for the photoshoot.
Depending on what is needed, the plan may include up to three therapy sessions before and three sessions after the photoshoot.
During the shoot, your therapist will be there to offer support and help you through the process, collaborating with you and the photographer to rebuild your self-image.
You’ll have the chance to review and talk about the photos as they are taken, helping you to process your emotions and the meaning behind the images.
You have complete control over the photos; you can delete any you don’t want and save the ones you like.
The shoot can be held indoors or outdoors according to your preference, and it’s meant to be a more authentic experience rather than a conventional glamour session.
Once the process is complete, you’ll receive digital copies of your photos. While Next Chapter Mental Health can keep these images secure as a backup, you also have the choice to have them permanently deleted if you prefer.
This package is not intended to replace regular trauma therapy. It is mostly available to current clients, though new clients may be considered with appropriate risk assessments and support planning.
