History of Scioto Paint Valley
Scioto Paint Valley Mental Health began in 1959 when the Ross County Mental Health Association was formed.
This group worked to create a community mental health agency, leading to the founding of the Paint Valley Guidance Center in 1965, which later became Scioto Paint Valley Mental Health Center in 1976.
Starting with just two employees, the organization quickly grew, adding new locations and services throughout the 1970s and 1980s.
They set up facilities in several counties and launched key programs like substance abuse treatment and a crisis center.
Over time, SPVMHC moved several times and expanded its services to include residential treatment centers and outpatient clinics.
In the 2000s, despite facing challenges, the center continued to grow, adding a Primary Care Center and expanding its facilities.
Recently, they opened The Rulon Center, a residential treatment facility named after a former board president.
Today, SPVMHC has a skilled team of psychiatrists and professionals, including Dr. Nathan Shiflett as Medical Director and Dr. Barbara Mahaffey as Executive Director.

Facilities and Services Provided By Scioto Paint Valley
