The Black Mountain Counseling Center (BMCC) is great at helping children and teenagers with mental health issues.
This blog will cover their programs, the dedicated staff, and what makes BMCC stand out from other mental health centres.
We’ll also talk about their work with the community to improve local mental health care.
Additionally, BetterHelp offers a different way to get therapy by connecting people with licensed therapists online, making it easier and more convenient to get support from home.
About Black Mountain Counseling Center

Black Mountain Counseling Center (BMCC) is a non-profit that offers mental health counseling in Black Mountain, Old Fort, and online for people in Buncombe and McDowell counties.
They rely on donations to help those who are uninsured or underinsured. BMCC’s licensed counselors care for children, adults, seniors, and families, with a commitment to making quality mental health services available to everyone, no matter their financial situation.
Founded in 2007 by Ellen Begley and her colleagues, BMCC started in response to a growing need for affordable mental health care in the Swannanoa Valley.
Originally called the Black Mountain Pastoral Care and Counseling Center, the name was changed in 2013 to reflect its broader services.
Ellen Begley became the Executive Director in 2014, and since then, BMCC has expanded by partnering with local organizations, adding new offices, and building strong relationships in the community.
Their mission remains focused on providing quality mental health care to those in need.

FAQ’s:
What distinguishes a psychologist from a therapist and a counsellor?
Psychologists, therapists, and counselors all work in mental health, but they have different roles and training.
Psychologists have advanced degrees and are trained in research and therapy. They can diagnose mental health problems and do psychological tests.
Therapists, including psychotherapists and marriage counselors, usually have master’s degrees and are skilled in various therapy techniques.
They help people deal with mental health issues and improve their well-being. Counselors, such as school or career counselors, also often have master’s degrees.
They focus on specific areas like education, job advice, or relationship issues, providing support and guidance to help people with these challenges.
What is the cost of therapy?
The cost of therapy can change a lot based on things like the therapist’s qualifications, their experience, where they practice, the type of therapy, and if you have insurance.
Sessions can range from affordable to expensive. Some therapists offer fees based on your income, and others accept insurance.
It’s helpful to compare different therapists and their prices to find one that fits your budget and needs.
Also, consider how therapy can benefit you in the long run and improve your overall well-being.
Which type of therapy would be suitable for me?
The best therapy for you depends on what you’re dealing with, your personality, and your goals.
For example, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) helps with changing negative thoughts and behaviors, while Psychodynamic Therapy looks at past experiences and deeper issues.
Interpersonal Therapy (IPT) helps with relationships, Family Therapy works on family problems, and Mindfulness-Based Therapies help with stress and emotions. Talking to a mental health professional can help you choose the right therapy for you.
