The Clayton Center Community Service Board provides assistance and services to individuals and families dealing with mental health issues, developmental disabilities and substance abuse. Founded in 1971, it was one of the earliest community programs in Georgia.

It has been under the Clayton Community Service Board since 1994, focusing on individuals with mental illness, addiction, developmental delay and emotional problems in children.

The center customizes its services to meet the individual needs of each person and provides services in several locations including Clayton County, Jonesboro, Hampton, and Lovejoy and in residential care.

With its accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF), Clayton Center provides assurance that the center meets high standards of care and is dedicated to continuously advancing the services provided to their clientele.

Clayton Center Mental Health Services

1. Adult Counseling

Clayton Center’s Adult Counseling program guides those ages 18 and older in addressing their mental health needs and improving their well being. 

The therapy can assist someone in coping with challenges, developing self awareness and making changes in their life. Group and family counseling are provided, but one-on-one availability is limited.

Those interested can only be referred via Clayton Center’s Intake & Assessment Department, or some other agency program, and intake appointments or available in Jonesboro, Georgia

2. Community of Behavioral Health Services

Community Behavioral HealthServices connect people with mental health and substance use challenges to supports that help them build greater stability, recovery and independence.

The ADSS program offers in-home and community based services to help adults in recovery who are dealing with substance use issues.

People experiencing mental health challenges can benefit from a Psychosocial Rehabilitation-Individual (PSR-I) program to teach coping skills, reduce symptoms, and help people lead a more independent life within their community.

Their case Management helps to connect people to the resources they need to avoid hospital stays, homelessness, and jail time like housing, healthcare, and job assistance.

Services are available at locations and hours flexible including evenings and weekends to accommodate each individual’s needs.

3. Children Young Adults+Families

Clayton Center Children, Young Adults and Families (CYAF) program provides mental health and emotional wellness support to help kids and teens ages 4 to 21. They offer therapy, psychiatric care, medication management and family support.

In special programs such as anger management, self-esteem, ADHD social skills and substance use recovery for teens Support from home, school and the community to help families navigate tough situations and access resources might be offered;

Intake appointments are available in Morrow, Georgia, and families without insurance can get help applying for Medicaid or PeachCare for Kids.

4. Developmental Disability

Clayton Center helps individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities lead more independent and meaningful lives.

They help people with a diagnosis of an intellectual disability by age 18 or an intellectual disability and a related disabling condition including epilepsy, cerebral palsy or autism, by age 22.

Services include medical care, therapy and help with daily living skills. Families might receive financial support to care for their ill relative at home and housing options range from group arrangements to personal assistance that allows someone to live independently.

The center also offers job training employment support and life skills programs to support people in being more involved in their communities.

Respite care enables caregivers to take short breaks to recharge while also offering the required family support.

4. Adult Residential

Adult Residential Services are safe, supportive housing for individuals with mental health conditions or developmental disabilities who require assistance with the activities of daily living and recovery.

They offer a range of living situations: group homes, personal care homes semi independent housing and apartments through the Shelter Plus Care program.

Residents receive assistance with tasks of daily living, case management and skill-building to help them live more independently. It is meant for individuals who are homeless or otherwise unable to manage their treatment independently.

Through several different locations in Clayton County where 24/7 care can be given the collective mission is to regain independence, aid in the development of skill progression and help existing to a higher quality of life.

5. Substance Use Disorder Disease Male Residents Service

Addiction Disease – The Adult Residence program offers an encouraging living environment for people working on their recovery from substance use disorder. 

It’s designed for people who require a little more help staying in recovery mode especially if the home or work environment doesn’t support that.

To qualify they must have a substance-related disorder, be able to work at least 32 hours a week and pass a health screening process that includes a recent TB test and a physical exam.

One must get permission to join if on probation or parole. The program provides individuals the opportunity to focus on recovery and regain their independence in a safe, structured environment.

7. Substance Use Disorder  Adult Outpatient Service

Addictive Disease  Adult Outpatient The provider descriptions for adults ages 18+ with a focus on addiction and co-occurring mental health issues.

The program starts with an assessment of the person’s physical, emotional and social needs.

It then provides therapy, skills, and education to help get people started or continue their recovery. The goal is to enrich their living experience, restore bonds, and help them in taking back their dignity and self-sufficiency, all with time-honoured methods and affectionate care.

8. Health & Wellness Management

The Health & Wellness Management program addresses the support of individuals with psychiatric or behavioral issues. 

The protocol starts with an intake assessment and can include counseling, health coaching, medication management and wellness education. 

The program also helps people manage their symptoms improve their mental health and create a treatment plan.

Services include check-ups, lab work and medication; appointments are typically available Monday through Friday. This is especially applicable for bringing people to mental well-being.

9. Adult Day Services

Clayton Center’s Adult Day Services helps adults aged 18 years and older with behavioural health needs through a structured series of activities and group sessions to facilitate recovery.

It helps people set and reach personal milestones to improve their lives. It can include a skills group and a peer support group.
