About Lakeland Mental Health Center

Lakeland Mental Health Center (LMHC) has been helping people in West Central Minnesota with their behavioural health needs since 1949.
As a private non-profit organization, it is led by a board of thirteen community members. LMHC’s goal is to offer high-quality and accessible mental health care for individuals and families.
To achieve this, they collaborate with local schools, clinics, and other community organizations, bringing services closer to those who may not be near a clinic.
With offices in Fergus Falls, Moorhead, Detroit Lakes, Alexandria, Glenwood, and Perham, LMHC provides therapy and assessment through a skilled team that includes psychiatrists, psychologists, and counsellors.
They also offer confidential online screenings for issues like depression, anxiety, PTSD, bipolar disorder, and alcohol use, making it easy for people to check on their mental health.
Mental Health Services Provided By Lakeland
1. Emergency Services
Lakeland Mental Health Center (LMHC) offers emergency mental health services for children and adults from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday to Friday.
During a mental health crisis, individuals can reach out to their nearest LMHC office for help, with locations in Alexandria, Detroit Lakes, Fergus Falls/Perham, Glenwood, and Moorhead.
LMHC also provides a 24-hour Crisis Service through a Mobile Mental Health Crisis Response Team, available by calling (800) 223-4512.
This team offers short-term support to help people get back on track and can meet almost anywhere in the community at no cost for residents of Clay, Otter Tail, and Wilkin Counties.
A team of two mental health responders will assess the situation, create a treatment plan, and connect individuals to additional resources to avoid unnecessary hospital stays and ensure ongoing support.
2. Online Screening
LMHC offers a free online screening for anyone feeling depressed, anxious, stressed, or using alcohol more than usual.
This confidential screening helps you understand your behavioural health needs and whether you or someone you care about may need support.
It covers topics like depression, generalized anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), bipolar disorder, and alcohol use.
The screening is anonymous and educational, not diagnostic, and takes just a few minutes to complete.
3. Adult Services
Lakeland Mental Health Center (LMHC) offers a range of services for adults experiencing mental health challenges.
With statistics showing that one in four adults face mental illness each year, LMHC provides support for those dealing with symptoms such as sadness, anxiety, stress, mood swings, loss of interest, anger, or withdrawal.
If you or a loved one are facing these signs or need help with daily living skills, LMHC is equipped to assist with diagnosing, treating, and understanding mental health conditions.
Their services are designed to support individuals in managing their mental health and improving their overall well-being.
4. Children Services
LMHC offers support to help kids with emotional challenges and their families find the resources they need in the community.
They provide therapy and skills training to help kids manage their feelings and improve their behaviour, with services available in schools and homes.
To access these services, children need a diagnosis that shows they require help, and most services are covered by Medical Assistance (MA).
The goal is to support children in overcoming their struggles and preventing more serious issues.
5. Chemical Health Services
Lakeland Mental Health Center (LMHC) offers outpatient services for teens and adults struggling with substance use and mental health issues.
They provide private assessments, individual and group therapy, mental health counselling, and psychiatric support.
Many clients deal with both substance use and mental health challenges, which can affect their daily lives.
LMHC helps them regain control through customized treatment plans, including counselling, support groups, and family education.
Families can also participate in educational sessions. The assessment takes about two hours and helps decide the best treatment.
