Philadelphia Mental Health Center, here referred to as PMHC is a facility that has been delivering quality mental health services in Philadelphia since its inception in 1953 under the direction of Dr. Edward Parnes

Being a not-for-profit organization, PMHC provides various packages of services aimed at helping individuals and families. 

Some of the services offered at this place are psychological and psychiatric evaluations which encompass extensive autism assessments, individual, family, and group therapy.

For the kids, PMHC provides support in the community through Intensive Behavioral Health Services.

For the adults, the Mobile Adult Program is offered to those individuals who are unable to attend the clinic.

Therapeutic services and management of medication are offered to those in therapy as well as on a private basis if one is willing to pay for it.

The center also offers private or what they call self-pay services for family and marriage counseling to ensure that the needs of the community in terms of mental health are well catered for.

Mission & Vision

The Philadelphia Mental Health Center has the goal of providing the people with the need of mental health treatment. 

The center has embraced a broad clinical philosophy and it is also being led by a team of Master’s and Doctoral level professionals.

These clinicians have undergone training in different treatment modalities such as ABA, DIR model, Theory of Mind and Cognitive, Behavioral and Psychodynamic therapies.

They rely on teamwork as they are in their practice. The staff comprises of a child psychiatrist, a CRNP, psychologists and master’s level clinicians who have come together to offer the best services. 

This makes sure that each and every patient gets the best attention that is needed for him or her.

Mental Health Services Provided By PMHC

1. Psychiatric Services

Center offers a package of psychiatric treatment and services which is coordinated by a team of board certified psychiatrists in the treatment of child and adult mental health. 

These professionals perform standard psychiatric consultations as well as autism evaluations for all ages including newborns through seniors.

Some of the psychiatrists at PMHC are also able to provide medication management to clients who are already receiving other therapeutic services in the center. 

The child psychiatrists in PMHC are also well prepared to deal with children with autism and make sure that the care given to such patients is appropriate for their condition and their age as well as their parents.

2. Individual, Family, and Couples Therapy

In its current state, PMHC offers one on one counseling to its clients by a team of Master’s and Doctoral level clinicians. 

These services are meant for children, adolescents, adults and their families. 

Understanding that the issue of behavioral health has an effect on the whole family, PMHC tries to include family members in the supportive therapy sessions as often as is feasible. 

Also, the center delivers specific adult family therapy and couples therapy to work on the matters of relationships and to build better relationships.

3. Mobile Mental Health Services

In cases where adults have medical conditions or disabilities which restrict them from being able to visit the clinic, PMHC offers Mobile Mental Health Services at the clients’ homes or other facilities such as nursing homes. 

This program offers one on one counseling to the clients in the comfort of their homes or their places of residence or even in facilities such as nursing homes.

This is to ensure that the clients receive the best care possible due to the fact that they are not restricted in any way by physical distances.

4. Intensive Behavioral Health Services (IBHS)

PMHC’s IBHS program is a therapeutic program which aims at assisting children and adolescents with emotional or behavioral issues that prevent them from thriving in school. 

The school based team works together with the students, their families and other members of the school community to put in measures that will enable the students to be successful in their life.

These services are provided at PMHC/DVCC and are open to clients who are from certain areas thus providing a good chance of reaching many people who are in need.

1. Kerey Parnes, Chief Executive Officer

Kerey Parnes has a Bachelor’s degree from Vassar College. She has more than a decade of experience in her private practice treating adults in Philadelphia and Doylestown.

She underwent her training as a Freudian Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist at the Psychoanalytic Studies Institute in Philadelphia where she got her certification in 1983.

She has also worked at PMHC as Outpatient Director, Quality Assurance Manager, and Assistant Director before becoming the CEO in the year 1999.

In her tenure, PMHC has also grown its services to children and families, has started mobile mental health treatment for the elderly and has also initiated TeleHealth.

2. Kaywana Broomer, Chief Operating Officer

Kaywana Broomer has several years of experience in the field of behavioral health in her practice. 

She has been a licensed therapist and counselor in Delaware and Pennsylvania and was also a certified school counselor and an investigator.

Kaywana Broomer started her career working in the intensive inpatient mental health setting.

Kaywana has worked in managerial positions including that of the Clinical Director and has also been involved in managing clinical and social work departments.

3. Dr. Lisa Maldonado, Staff Psychiatrist

Dr. Lisa Maldonado is a board certified psychiatrist in Adult, Child and Adolescent Psychiatry who finished her residency at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, where she was a Chief Resident.

She has therefore worked in various treatment facilities during the course of the last 25 years. 

Her areas of interest are ADHD at all ages and she has also got specific interests in child and adolescent ADHD, depression and anxiety, OCD, bipolar disorder  and ASD.

4. Melissa Allio, Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner

CRNP Melissa Allio has her Master’s degree in Nursing with the concentration in Family Nurse Practitioner from Chamberlain College of Nursing. 

She has a working experience of fourteen years as a nurse in the medical-surgical unit, obstetrics and gynecology department. She moved to mental health three years ago.

5. Dawneisha Spratley, Clinical Director

Dawneisha Spratley has done more than two decades of work in the field of Behavioral Health and Child Welfare in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware.

She has worked in positions such as case manager to clinical director, handling children to the elderly.

Some of the areas of interest that she has are mental health disorders, trauma, substance abuse and biopsychosocial model of treatment. 

6. Elizabeth Lomax, Director of Outpatient and Mobile Mental Health

Elizabeth Lomax has over 25 years of experience in providing mental and behavioral health services to children and adults. 

She is a professional who is holding master’s degrees in Clinical Social Work and Criminal Justice with a Behavior Analysis concentration.

She has specialized in outpatient Medication-Assisted Treatment programs for adults with substance use disorders over the past decade.
