1. Adult In-Community Services

Adult Rehabilitative Mental Health Services (ARMHS) provides support to help people with mental health issues live more independently and manage their daily lives better. 

These services are delivered directly in people’s homes or within their communities and are aimed at helping individuals build stability, improve social skills, and adjust emotionally. 

Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) is a more intensive type of support for those with severe mental illness, provided by a dedicated team across various settings. 

Certified Peer Specialist Services (CPSS) focuses on helping individuals find their strengths and work towards their recovery by sharing personal experiences and offering encouragement. 

Targeted Case Management (TCM) helps connect people with mental health conditions to important resources such as medical care, education, and housing.

Northern Pines also offers specialized support from nurse case managers for those with complex health needs. 

ARMHS further helps individuals by improving their understanding of mental health, teaching essential life skills, and supporting them as they transition to living more independently in their communities.

2. In-Clinic Services

Northern Pines provides a comprehensive range of mental health services at its clinics, including individual and family therapy, psychiatric care for both children and adults, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and specialized support for children under five. 

Clients can engage in individual, couples, or group therapy to address their challenges, set goals, and learn healthier ways of thinking and acting. 

The psychiatry team focuses on both the mental and physical aspects of psychological issues, offering medication management and holistic care.

3. Child & Family Services

Northern Pines Mental Health Center provides comprehensive Child and Family Services aimed at supporting children with severe emotional challenges and their families. 

Through Children’s Mental Health Targeted Case Management (CM-TCM), they connect families to essential resources, including mental health care and educational support. 

The centre offers in-home and school-based counselling through Children’s Therapeutic Support Services, which creates a safe environment for families to address issues and develop new skills. 

Mental Health Behavioral Aides (MHBA) assist children facing behavioural difficulties, helping them enhance their social skills for success at home and in the community. 

For youth aged 14-21 with serious mental health conditions, the Youth-ACT/IRMHS program provides intensive, coordinated support, focusing on well-being, family dynamics, and daily living skills while teaching coping strategies like anger management and problem-solving. 

Throughout treatment, MHBA staff play a crucial role in skill development, serve as positive role models, and provide crisis support, alongside various services, including vocational assistance and 24/7 crisis access, tailored to meet the unique needs of young people.

4. Substance Use Disorder Services

Northern Pines Mental Health Center provides comprehensive Substance Use Disorder Services tailored for adults and adolescents aged 13 and older facing substance use challenges or co-occurring disorders. 

Their treatment approach emphasizes concurrent care for all related issues, ensuring a holistic recovery process. 

The centre encourages open communication among clients, counsellors9+6, and family members to foster healing. 

Family education days are held every six weeks in both adult and adolescent programs to support understanding and involvement.

For adults, Northern Pines offers outpatient programs in Brainerd, Little Falls, and Wadena, catering to those struggling with substance use and related disorders. 

Additionally, they conduct substance use assessments for youth aged 13-17, previously known as Rule 25 assessments, to evaluate substance use concerns and determine the appropriate level of care needed.

5. Crisis Services

Northern Pines Mental Health Center offers Crisis Services through its Mental Health Urgent Care Clinic, staffed by trained mental health professionals who are equipped to handle mental health emergencies. 

They provide immediate support during crises, conducting initial assessments in a comfortable setting to ensure clients feel at ease.

Internship Opportunities At Northern Pines Center

Northern Pines Mental Health Center is committed to helping future mental health professionals through paid internships and partnerships with colleges and universities. 

They support staff members who want to further their education, offering ongoing training and opportunities to grow and advance within the organization.

The center works with the Minnesota Association of Community Mental Health Centers to offer internships and field placements for students studying Social Work, Psychology, and Marriage and Family Therapy. 

These experiences allow students to build practical skills while serving communities across six counties: Cass, Crow Wing, Aitkin, Todd, Morrison, and Wadena.

Internships are available in August, September, May, and sometimes in December and March. Students must commit at least 16 hours per week for at least three months, as the program involves significant orientation and supervision. 

Northern Pines tries to match students with mentors who fit their learning goals, although availability may vary depending on location and services.
